History was made at the 2007 JWMGC in Whangamata when perennial tail-ender Tim Burgess became the only player to win the team event twice. Established in 2005 to provide a bit of extra banter for the battlers, Burgess was part of the stylish team of Auckland Falcons that claimed the team event on the wild West Coast.

When the trophy took on elevated importance in 2006 as the Fraser Moors Memorial and teams for the event were being finalised, Falcons captain Lord Hunt was sent an anonymous video that would change everything. The Falcon players had gathered and were about to watch their beloved Auckland Blues play in a crunch match against their fiercest rivals. Lord Hunt was left with no choice but to send the Hamilton bogun packing.
Without a team of note to play for, Burgess headed south to the Bay of Scanty and into the welcoming arms of the Bay Boys – ex Bay City Roller fans who would eventually change their name in protest to the Magpies.
Time has now shown that it was a masterstroke by 2006 Magpies skip Sleepy Sonof as the combined Bays Magpies snuck home in the Whangamata heat.
